Church
& Religious Organizations Boards
A board of directors, also referred to as a board of
trustees, board of stewards or other types of boards
is a group of individuals elected or appointed to govern
the affairs of a church or religious organization, or
corporation. Generally, the board of trustees of a church
or religious organization is legally and financially
responsible for the operation and conduct of the organization.
It should not be a passive role but rather should be
one that is active for the good of the organization
and for reducing liability of the individual trustees.
The varied talents and diverse background of a board
of trustees can be helpful to the growth of a church
or religious organization. A good board member is one
that brings unique ability and a broad perspective to
the board and is genuine interested and active in the
church or religious organization. Identifying and selecting
persons to serve on a board should not be taken lightly.
